Record-breaker Colomo relishes Mauritius return

New father Javier Colomo will draw on happy memories when he tees it up in the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open from May 12-15.

Javier Colomo - became the first man to make a hole-in-one on a par four on day two of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open

The Spaniard, whose daughter Lola was born in early April, holed his drive on the 334-yard ninth – his last hole of the second round – making history for the first hole-in-one on a par four in a European Tour event.

The albatross lifted him inside the cut line, and he ultimately finished in a share of 51st place at Heritage Golf Club.

This year the €1,000,000 event, which is tri-sanctioned by the European, Asian and Sunshine Tours, moves to the Four Seasons Golf Club at Anahita, and Colomo will benefit from complimentary flights and accommodation.

“I have great memories of Mauritius,” said the 32 year old. “The place is incredible and my hole-in-one on a par four really made my week last year. The memory is still vividly imprinted in my mind.

“I’m really excited to go back and play in the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open. The atmosphere was fantastic last year and I’m sure it’ll be even better this time. It’ll be nice weather, a great golf course and lovely people – all the things you need to enjoy a tournament.”

Colomo, who is plying his trade on the Asian Tour this season, added: “My game is feeling good. I have been working a lot on my putting and short game. I think I am on the right track. The results are not very good but I am very confident that good things are coming.”
