Jon Rahm was on course for the semi-finals of the WGC - Dell Technologies Match Play after taking a commanding lead at the turn against Søren Kjeldsen at Austin Country Club.
Both men entered the day with 100 per cent records - although Kjeldsen had played one match less after the withdrawal of Gary Woodland - and made light work of their quarter-final opponents.
Rahm beat Charles Howell III 6 and 4 and Kjeldsen was a 5 and 4 winner over William McGirt to set up a mouthwatering all European Tour clash in the quarter-finals.
And it was the Spaniard who maintained his form, moving four up after nine holes to put one foot in the last four.
In the other quarter-final in that half of the draw, Bill Haas was three up against Phil Mickelson after nine holes.
Kjeldsen failed to find the putting surface on the first to surrender a bogey and a Rahm approach to ten feet on the third moved the 22 year old two up. A stunning approach to the sixth then set up an eagle and when Kjeldsen bogeyed the eighth, he looked in real trouble.
Ahead of them, Haas hit a stunning approach to birdie the first but he bogeyed the next before a birdie-par-birdie-birdie run had him three up.
Mickelson hit a wonderful tee-shot into the par three seventh to grab a hole back but Haas was dialled in, and another excellent approach to the ninth re-established his cushion.
