Rafferty and Scott finished a mammoth 23 under par, to finish three shots ahead of Santiago Luna and Ian Waller, who mounted a late charge on the final day with a ten under par score.

The Scottish Senior Open was played in the unique Alliance format, which partners one amateur with a professional for the first two rounds of the tournament. The professionals then play out their final rounds on the last day of the competition.

Gary Wolstenholme and Tyrone Hanlon shared third place with Luna and Waller with a nine under par second round. Philip Golding and Andy Ray and Miguel Angel Martin and Gary Ross shared fourth spot on 19 under par.

Former England cricket stars Sir Ian Botham and Chris Broad took part in this year’s pro-am, with Broad finishing tied tenth with Peter Fowler, who finished joint second at this year’s Scottish Senior Open.

David MacLaren, Head of the European Senior Tour, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the success of this innovative format, and to give so many amateurs the opportunity to be an integral part of the Prostate Cancer UK Scottish Senior Open.

“The feedback we had has been universally encouraging, and it’s great to see our professionals interacting so positively with their amateur partners. We believe that this format has great potential for the future development of the European Senior Tour.”
