Quiros stays ahead in Morocco

Alvaro Quiros maintained his one-shot lead as the third round of the Trophée Hassan II got under way at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam.

The Spaniard won for the first time in six years at last season's Rocco Forte Open - Verdura, Sicily but has made just three cuts since, although he has shown all the class that has made him a seven-time European Tour winner this week.

After firing an opening 67 in calm conditions, he battled to a 70 in the wind on Friday and with favourable conditions returning on day three, he played his first three holes in level par to stay at seven under.

South African Erik van Rooyen was then at six under, a shot clear of Australian Andrew Dodt and two ahead of Austin Connelly, Bradley Dredge, Joakim Lagergren, Alexander Levy and Paul Waring.

The first proved tricky for the final groups with Dredge and Connelly both making bogeys to drop to three under and Van Rooyen also dropping a shot to slide three off the lead.

Waring and Levy both birdied the third to join him but that was soon just two behind as Quiros also bogeyed his opener, with a Dodt par enough to give him a share of the lead.

Van Rooyen bounced straight back with a birdie on the second but a Dodt bogey handed Quiros the solo lead again, with Dredge and Connelly moving back to four under with gains on the third.

Nice approaches into the third meant Qurios and Van Rooyen both made birdies, with a Lagergren gain on the fourth moving him three off the lead.

Joost Luiten birdied the second in his first five holes to sit at three under, a shot ahead of 2016 champion Jeunghun Wang, Benjamin Hebert, Mikko Ilonen, Raphaël Jacquelin, Yusaku Miyazato and Callum Shinkwin.
