Quiros confirmed for Andalucia Masters

Alvaro Quiros, the highest ranked Spaniard in the Official World Golf Ranking, has confirmed he will play in the Andalucia Masters at Club de Golf Valderrama from October 27 – 30.

World Number 42 Quiros feels he has something to prove this year, which is only a few minutes away from his home, as he has does not have a great record at the iconic venue.

“My statistics are terrible,” he admitted. “I only made one cut, in 2008, but I’m determined to change things. I’m looking forward to playing at home, with the support of my family and friends, and hopefully this time I will give them reasons to cheer.”

In the five years since he joined The European Tour, the big-hitting Spaniard has claimed one victory each season, the most recent coming at the 2011 Omega Dubai Desert Classic, where he had a hole-in-one in the last round which won The European Tour Shot of Month for February.

Quiros enjoyed a fine start to the season with eighth place at the Volvo Golf Champions in Bahrain, second place in the Commercialbank Qatar Masters presented by Dolphin Energy and fifth at the Volvo World Match Play.

He also led after the first round of the Masters Tournament, but over the summer knee and wrist injuries kept him out of competition for seven weeks up until the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship a fortnight ago.

A good end to the season, however, could get the 28 year old back into the world’s top 30, and he will be hoping for a large chunk of the €3 million prize fund in Andalucia.
