Thailand’s Prom Meesawat is eager to get his season off to a flying start in a fortnight’s time when he it tees up at the inaugural Thailand Classic presented by Black Mountain

He sensationally broke his eight-year winless streak at the Yeangder Tournament Players Championship in Chinese Taipei last year en route to a third place finish on the Asian Tour Order of Merit.

With the US$2 million Thailand Classic taking its place as one of the early events in the 2015 season, Prom knows the importance of getting off to a fast start.

He said: “A good performance at one of the early events will give you lots of confidence for the long season ahead.

“I’ll be focusing much of my attention on the Asian Tour this year although I also have opportunities on the Challenge Tour in Europe. So it’ll be nice to get a good result early in the season.”

The burly Thai will be relishing a homecoming of sorts as he hails from the seaside town of Hua Hin where the tournament is set to take centre stage.

The 30 year old also plans to embark on a fitness program to keep him in tip-top shape as the season goes on.

“I’ve got to maintain my physical fitness for the year, as I struggled with injuries in 2014. When I’m fit, my performance gets better, and I don’t want to miss out on my chances especially when there’s a lot of big tournaments coming up this year," said Meesawat.

Thaworn Wiratchant, a two-time Asian Tour Order of Merit, is also optimistic of his chances at the Thailand Classic, which is the first tournament in the Kingdom to be co-sanctioned by The European Tour and Asian Tour in eight years.

The evergreen Thai knows that age is not a barrier to success and is hungry for more glory.

“I can still win and I want to lift more titles in 2015,” said Thaworn, who was Asia’s number one in 2005 and 2012. "I’ll try to play in every event on the Asian Tour as it is my home tour. I will try to win the Order of Merit title again even though it may not be easy as there are lots of good players on the Asian Tour now.

“Anyway I know I’m still capable of winning and hope to do more of that in 2015."

Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts along with England’s Tommy Fleetwood and David Howell will be part of the strong European Tour line-up at the Black Mountain Golf Club that also includes Spain’s Miguel Angel Jiménez and Denmark’s Thomas Bjorn.

India’s Anirban Lahiri, Singapore’s Mardan Mamat, Bangladeshi Siddikur Rahman and Filipino Angelo Que will also feature alongside Omega European Masters champion David Lipsky of the United States.
