Prague Golf Challenge: In numbers

The European Challenge Tour makes its second trip of the season to the Czech Republic for the Prague Golf Challenge this week and we’ve looked at the facts and figures from inaugural staging of the event last year.

Prague City Golf Club

One - There was just one albatross at last year’s Prague Golf Challenge, belonging to Robin Sciot-Siegrist. The Frenchman holed his three-wood approach on the 13thhole from 255 yards to record the only two on a par five of the week.

Two – This year’s tournament is only the second edition of the event after its debut on the Challenge Tour’s International Schedule last year. Czech Republic has staged Challenge Tour events for 26 years, the first being 1992’s Playboy Charity Challenge in Mariánské Lázně, towards the German border in the west of the country.

19 – Garrick Porteous’ winning score of 24 under par was one of the lowest in Challenge Tour history, and a large part of that was thanks to an incredible back nine. Over the four rounds, Porteous was 19 under par during the last nine holes compared to just five under par on the front nine.

26 – Porteous carded six bogeys during his maiden Challenge Tour triumph, but a sea of red ensured he stayed ahead of the chasing pack. The Englishman shot 26 birdies across the four rounds, in addition to two eagles.

63 – Thomas Linard and Adrian Meronk carded the joint-lowest rounds of the inaugural Prague Golf Challenge. Meronk, of Poland, carded a bogey-free 63 in round two, which included six back nine birdies. After a six over par 78 on Day Three, Frenchman Linard bounced back with a superb nine under par round on the final day, also completing his 18 holes without a bogey.

189 – Prague City Golf’s shortest hole is the 189-yard par three 16th, which also played as the hardest hole at last year’s event. Players took an average of 3.11 strokes to complete the hole over the four days. There were 50 birdies and 300 pars throughout the week, with 96 bogeys and five double bogeys.

266- The number of world ranking spots leapt by last year’s winner Porteous. He went into the week ranked 638thin the world and the victory catapulted him into 372nd.

518 – The easiest hole at last year’s event was the 518-yard par five 13th. There were just ten double bogeys over the four days, with a further 35 bogeys, with players taking an average of 4.51 shots.

519 – Miles between Himmerland Golf & Spa Resort, last week’s Made in Denmark venue, and Prague City Golf.

649 – The distance, in yards, of the longest hole at Prague City Golf. The monster par five seventh will test players to their limits as they carefully navigate the course’s longest hole. Despite its length, the hole actually played as the fourth-easiest on the course last year. Players took an average of 4.78 strokes to complete the hole, with three eagles and 132 birdies carded across the week.
