Practice makes perfect for Yang

Y E Yang was pleased to hang on to his share of the lead during a testing second round of the BMW PGA Championship.

The Korean, who in 2009 became the first Asian to win a Major at the US PGA Championship, added a 69 to his opening 65 at Wentworth Club.

Having only dropped one shot on Thursday, Yang had three bogeys and scrambled well on the 15th and 16th to avoid any further shots.

However, there were also four birdies and an eagle on the par five 12th to leave him level with Scott Hend and Danny Willett on ten under par.

And Yang revealed that the afternoon breeze and hardening greens had made for more difficult conditions on the West Course.

“Today was a little windy and the firm greens made it tough but my finish was good so I’m happy,” - YE Yang.

“Chipping and everything is difficult, but with a lot of practice and by thinking good I’ve played good.”

Jaco van Zyl, who missed an eagle putt from 15 feet on the 18th green that would have made it a four-way tie for the lead, was pleased with his round of 68 after coming home in 33.

“I got off to a bit of a slow start and missed a couple of shots and then just started hitting it really nicely on the back nine,” he said.

“You play the first three rounds and keep yourself in contention and if you stay there it basically boils down to the back nine on Sunday.”
