Poulter given leading role on final day

Europe captain Darren Clarke has again selected Ian Poulter to play first on the final day of the EURASIA CUP presented by DRB-HICOM.

Ian Poulter

Poulter, who helped Europe put their first point on the board in both Friday's fourball and Saturday's foursome matches, will take on local favourite Danny Chia in the opening singles match at 8.35am.

England's Danny Willett will then face last year's BMW PGA Championship winner Byeong-hun An before Andy Sullivan meets World Number 27 Thongchai Jaidee in match three.

Matt Fitzpatrick will come up against Thailand's Kiradech Aphibarnrat before Shane Lowry takes on Anirban Lahiri.

Bernd Wiesberger faces K.T Kim in match six, Lee Westwood takes on Nicholas Fung in match seven and Ross Fisher plays Jeung Hun Wang in the eighth match of the morning at 9.45.

Chris Wood will take on SSP Chawrasia, Kristoffer Broberg meets Shingo Katayama and Victor Dubuisson faces Wu Ashun before Søren Kjeldsen goes up against Prayad Marksaeng in the final match.

Clarke explained why he picked Poulter to lead Europe's charge again. He said: "Poults, he likes getting out and playing early, and he plays pretty quick. He's been very successful in that leading role so far this week, so I didn't see any reason to change it.

"The team, the order, it's strong all the way through. Obviously just talking about Ian going out there first, he likes to play quickly, as does Danny.

"I could have put this team out in any order, but I had my plan in place for the order in which I wanted the pairings to go out.

"I had made my mind on that up for fourballs and foursomes probably six weeks ago, and I had my mind made up on basically this order around the same sort of time.

"I don't see any reason to change from my original plans. That's why they are in the order in which they are."
