Pon Senior Open takes off in September

For the next three years, the leading players on the European Senior Tour will descend on WINSTONgolf in Vorbeck, Germany, for the Pon Senior Open.

The inaugural edition of the €400,000 event will take place from September 7-9 over the course which in 2005 hosted the German Amateur Stroke Play Championship, won by a certain Martin Kaymer.

“We are very excited to stage an international tournament of this size for the first time on this magnificent golf course,” said Mark Hopman, General Manager of the tournament organisers OrangeLink Marketing GmbH.

Andy Stubbs, Managing Director of the European Senior Tour, said: “We are very pleased that the Pon Senior Open will take our tally of Senior Tour events in Germany to two, after the Berenberg Bank Masters in June.”

The title sponsor of the new event is Pon Holdings, which has its headquarters in Almere and is one of the biggest family-run companies in the Netherlands.

Since 1947, Pon has held the import rights for Volkswagen in the Netherlands, and the company will celebrate the 65th anniversary of this cooperation by sponsoring the tournament at the Pon family-owned WINSTONgolf.

From the back tees, the par 72 championship course, which first opened in 2002, measures 6,238 metres in length.

“The highly undulating greens will demand full concentration and great golf, even for the pros,” said Jenny Elshout, director of WINSTONgolf.

The brand new WINSTONlinks won Golf Magazin’s ‘best new golf course’ award in 2011. The links-style layout, built over 200 hectares, was designed with Scottish dunes in mind.
