Polish perfectionist targeting French glory

He has seven top 25 finishes to his name since missing his only cut of the year at the season-opening Barclays Kenya Open and now Adrian Meronk is craving success on the European Challenge Tour.

Europe’s top developmental tour makes its second trip of the season to France this week as the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge gets under way at Golf PGA France du Vaudreuil.

The Poland native is now into his second season on the Challenge Tour and this week makes his second visit to Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge after finishing tied 14that the event two years ago.

The 25 year old has recorded back-to-back tied 21stplace finishes in the last two weeks and as he reflects on his season so far, he’s happy with his progress but is left wanting more.

“I’ve been playing pretty well. I only missed the first cut of the season so I’m pretty pleased,” he said.

“I wanted to be a little bit better with how I’ve finished because I’ve had a lot of tournaments with a good two or three rounds, but then I’ve struggled a bit on the last day.

“We’re halfway through the season and there’s still a lot of golf to be played so I’m just going to play my game and hope everything will come together in one tournament.

“Maybe my expectations are too high but every week I’m trying to play my best and stick to my strategy. It’s been up and down but I’ll keep going and hopefully it will all come together – hopefully this week!”

Poland’s highest-ranked golfer has recently been working to improve his putting and the Wroclaw native hopes to his hard work pay dividends this week at a course which he says is in ‘great condition’.

“My long game is pretty strong at the moment,” he said. “I’ve been struggling a little bit with my putting, especially when I’m in contention, so I’ve been doing some work on that. Hopefully I’ll see some progress this week.

“You have to hit the ball fairly straight off the tee here because there are a lot of tight tee shots. There are a lot of trees and long rough, so I think that will be the key.

“Putting will be important, as always, but the greens look nice here and they’re in really good condition. I want to hit some fairways, greens and roll some putts – that’s the best way!

“I played nine holes today and the course is in great condition. The fairways are a bit firmer from what I remember, and the course is playing a little bit differently to two years ago too. It’s in great shape so it will be a good test of golf this week.”
