Player blog: Mike Lorenzo-Vera in Morocco

A combination of talent, flair and character has helped make Frenchman Mike Lorenzo-Vera one of the most popular players on tour. In this week’s blog, we hear from the 31 year old on a new arrival, his lack of a proper beard and that passionate celebration in Valderrama.

Life is pretty good right now.I have a six month old baby at home which is why I’ve only played five tournaments this year, because I want to be next to my daughter and it’s hard for me to be away from her. The five events I’ve played though have gone quite well. Except Spain, where I finished tied sixth, I haven’t had any huge results, but I know if I stay patient it will come.

Re-arranging my schedulebecause of the new arrival in our family actually seems to have helped me so far this season. I’m arriving very fresh at each event, and that in turn means I’m making fewer stupid mistakes during tournaments. My game is in a good place, with my short game starting to come back, so I have a lot of expectations for this year because the long game is really solid as well. So everything is looking positive.

The highlight of my seasonwas the eagle at the par five 17th hole in Spain. It’s such a famous hole, so to be able to hole a shot there – wow! Before the event I saw the European Tour’s videos of Graeme McDowell and Miguel Ángel Jiménez holing their shots there, but mine was only for eagle.

I was watching that and was like ‘it could be cool to hole a great shot on a famous hole like that’ – and it happened! Mike Lorenzo-Vera

I was so happy when I saw it go in and then I just went for it and decided to show how much it meant to me. The scorer then came from nowhere and got involved as well so that was fun. He was a nice man following our group, so why not?

My game is good but my beard is terrible!I’m ready to go this week but I feel like an eight year old with my lack of beard at the moment. It’s great to hear that some of the fans appreciate my efforts with my facial hair, but it could be better. I’m going to ask Beef (Andrew Johnston) to give me some beard tips though as his is quite something!

The moustache on the other hand, is much better. If I had to shave that off I would look like a chubby kid! But that won’t be happening.

They really know how to prepare a golf course in Morocco. It’s really nice to be here again and it’s comfortable for us French guys to be here as we can speak French to people, and the people here are so welcoming. The weather is normally great too, and the course… well it's incredible to think that they closed the course off since January just for us. The last time I was here was in 2006 but they have changed a lot since then so we will see.

I’m so excited about the upcoming events.Ever since I was a kid I dreamed about these events, like Ireland, Scotland, playing at Wentworth and my home event in France. For me, you cannot get any better than this. I’m so pumped. If only I could grow a proper beard for those tournaments….
