Alfie Plant is aiming to secure more French success when he tees it up in this week’s Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge just two weeks after claiming his second professional victory in France.
The Englishman, who today celebrates his 30th birthday, followed his Hopps Open de Provence triumph of 2021 with victory at the Blot Open de Bretagne last month to soar up the Road to Mallorca Rankings and return to form in fine style.
He arrives at Golf PGA France du Vaudreuil this week with a spring in his step as he prepares to compete at a venue which he enjoys.
“I love it down here, I really do,” he said. “It’s another one that’s close to home for me, which is nice, so I managed to drive out here. The course suits me a little bit. I think it’ll play tricky if the wind stays up. The scoring will be tough, the greens are very small here but they put on a great event, so I’m looking forward to it.
“The game’s feeling ok. I won a couple of weeks ago, which does drain you a little bit, so I had a bit of a rest at home this weekend, which was nice, so hopefully I can bring my best stuff again.”
The 2017 Silver Medal winner is now determined to build on his success in Brittany and cement a spot in the top 20 on the Road to Mallorca Rankings, which in turn would earn him DP World Tour playing privileges for 2023.
“If you’re going to try and get in the top 20, I think you need a win, maybe even two wins. It’s nice and early in the season as well, whereas last year it was a little bit late. I’ve got plenty of events left to pick up more points and earn my spot in the top 20.
“We practice very hard, all the guys out here, so getting a win makes it all worthwhile.”
Plant will be joined in France by Road to Mallorca Number Two Oliver Hundebøll, Sweden’s Jens Dantorp and 2019 Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge winner Steven Tiley.
The action gets under way at 8:00am local time on Thursday July 7, with Plant teeing it up alongside Romain Wattel and Matteo Manassero at 1:40pm.
