Peterson equals course record at Albatross

Paul Peterson equalled the course record at Albatross Golf Resort to put himself in contention heading into the final round of the D+D REAL Czech Masters - and then admitted he had no idea how close he was to the history books.

The American made eight birdies in a blemish-free effort to join Scott Jamieson and Mikael Lundberg as the only men to have shot a 64 on the Prague layout.

That stunning third round also moved him to within two shots of leader and defending champion Thomas Pieters, who registered rounds of 67-67-70 over the first three days to sit at 12 under.

Peterson's celebration when he made his final birdie of the day on the 15th gave the impression that he knew exactly what he was playing for but, after missing a 12-foot putt on the last for a 63, he admitted that records were not on his mind.

"I felt like I was playing really well," he said. "I knew where I was all day and I was just trying to take it one shot at a time. I know it's a cliché but we really were just into each shot.

"I had no idea I was anywhere near the course record but that's awesome to hear and I'm really happy with my round.

"The putt at 15 looked in from the second I hit it. We made a little club change there from the fairway bunker and to capitalise on that felt really good.

"My putts had been rolling out and stopping over the front edge all day and I thought at the last, maybe we'll get one more, but you never want to leave those short.

"I'm looking forward to tomorrow. Nothing's going to change for us, just one shot at a time and I look forward to the experience tomorrow. Hopefully I can post a good number."

Denmark's Jeff Winther came into day three with a share of the lead and while a 73 saw him drop to nine under, he enjoyed the experience of going out in the final group.

"I'm going to just try and forget about this day," he said. "I hit a lot of good shots but missed a lot of fairways and that makes this course a lot tougher than it should be.

"I think it was an awesome experience. It's great to feel the nerves, it doesn't happen that often, so it's nice to have that little rush you get on the first tee. It's a little shaky sometimes but the more you try it the better you get."

Robert Rock is also at nine under as he searches for a first win since 2012 and the Englishman is taking a laid-back approach in his 342nd European Tour event.

"I wasn't really expecting to shoot 65 today," he said. "I didn't plan to do that so I'll just tee off tomorrow and see what happens.

"It's a good effort and I moved up the leaderboard a little bit.

"The game's been good, I've just not played as much as in years past and it's to try and be a little bit sharper when I do."
