Pepperell ready to get competitive again

After making his US PGA Championship debut two weeks ago Eddie Pepperell is in Europe again and looking forward to getting back to competitive action at this week’s D+D REAL Czech Masters.

Pepperell, who seems to have developed a nice habit of posting top five finishes in some of the biggest events on The European Tour, gained some invaluable experience at Whistling Straits, despite missing the cut.

Although the 24 year old felt the numbers he posted did not reflect the way he was playing, he is keen to take the positives from his week in Wisconsin.

“Overall, it was a good experience for me playing at Whistling Straits. My score didn’t really do me justice, but I’m not too fussed about that,” said Pepperell.

“I hadn’t played for three weeks with the way the schedule sits for players like myself, so although I didn’t play as well as I would’ve liked, or score as well, it was enjoyable being out there in that sort of atmosphere.

“I hadn’t experienced much of that before, but I’m glad to be back in Europe now and I’m looking forward to this event and then the run-up to the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and to Woburn for the British Masters supported by Sky Sports, and then lastly to the final four.”

Pepperell can draw on some good memories of the Czech Masters, which is being played for the second year running at the beautiful and challenging Albatross Golf Resort, on the outskirts of Prague.

The Englishman finished in a tie for fifth place last year at the inaugural edition of the event, and the 7,516 yard layout and the city of Prague itself, both get a thumbs up from Mr. Pepperell.

“I enjoy the course – it’s nice to play and always in good condition. Good shots are rewarded here as well and the forecast for the week looks great,” said the Abingdon native.

“The finish here is tough though. The par three 16th is an interesting hole, and the par four 17th is a tough prospect at 490 yards. Eddie Pepperell

“I went into the city itself last night. We went to the main square and had a nice meal at an Argentinian steak house with a glass of red wine on the side, so it’s all been very nice.”

Pepperell has already developed a reputation for being one of the most interesting and thoughtful players on The European Tour.

All that is missing from the young man’s profile is that maiden European Tour title – something he will be vying to change this week in the Czech Republic.
