Parry shines in Spain

England's John Parry broke the Club de Campo del Mediterráneo course record to set the third round clubhouse target at nine under par in the CASTELLÓ MASTERS Costa Azahar.

The in-form Challenge Tour graduate, who won the Vivendi Cup 2010 last month before finishing third at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship , carded five birdies in a front nine 31.

Parry has finished in the top 30 in all of his last seven European Tour events, and the 23 year old continued his march towards a place in the Dubai World Championship with a further gain at the 11th, before leaving himself a tap in for birdie at the par five 13th and converting from 12 feet at the par three 16th.

That led to an eight under 63, one better than the previous course record, and left Parry in the clubhouse lead.

But on the course he had already been passed by compatriot Gary Boyd and Argentina's Ricardo Gonzalez.

Big-hitting Gonzalez birdied the long par five fourth before holing his approach at the next for an eagle to be three under for the day through five and ten under overall.

Boyd joined him by playing his first seven holes in four under, courtesy of a hattrick of birdies from the third.

Peter Lawrie also made a good start, picking up three shots in his first six holes to sit alongside Parry on nine under.

But while conditions were enabling some good scoring, overnight leader Peter Hedblom had dropped all the way to a tie for 16th with three bogeys in his first four holes.
