Open Championship Prize Money Announced

The total prize money for The 2012 Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes will be £5 million, the same as in 2011.

The R&A announced the prize money breakdown and the player who lifts the Claret Jug as Open Champion will receive a cheque for £900,000.

Prize money shall be allocated only to professional golfers.

If more than 70 professional golfers qualify for the final two rounds, additional prize money will be added.   Prize money will decrease by £100 per qualifying place above 70 to a minimum of £9,000.

Non qualifiers after two rounds:  Leading ten professional golfers and ties £3,500; next 20 professional golfers and ties £2,850; next 20 professional golfers and ties £2,600; remained of professional golfers and ties £2,350.
