Oosthuizen turns the tables on Watson

Louis Oosthuizen gained a modicum of revenge over Bubba Watson as the South African set up a last-16 showdown with Rickie Fowler at the WGC – Cadillac Match Play.

Watson beat Oosthuizen in a play-off to claim the first of his Masters Tournament victories in 2012, but it was the 2010 Open Champion who came out on top on the 19th hole today to progress in San Francisco.

Two up at the turn, a hat-trick of gains from World Number Four Watson between the 12th and 14th saw Oosthuizen fall one down, but he squared the contest on the 16th and – after both players missed chances to win on 18 – holed a crucial putt at the first extra hole.

“It was a good match; both of us couldn’t really get the ball in the hole in the middle of the round,” said Oosthuizen, who beat Keegan Bradley and Miguel Angel Jiménez over the first two days.

“Overall I played nicely and only made one bogey so I’m happy going forward.

“It will be tough again tomorrow - Rickie is a great player and he’s going to make a lot of birdies and come at me so I need to play well again.”
