Oosthuizen out to improve Leopard Creek record

Louis Oosthuizen returns to his favourite course in South Africa for this week’s Alfred Dunhill Championship, but admits his record at Leopard Creek leaves a lot to be desired.

Since finishing as runner-up in Malelane at the start of the 2006 season, the 2010 Open Champion has missed five cuts at the stunning Kruger National Park venue before withdrawing from the event two years ago.

But having recorded three top-ten finishes in his last four outings, Oosthuizen is confident of putting in a strong showing.

“I always come here have a great time, just being out in the wildlife,” said the World Number 54. “But I am focused on the golf.

“I want to have a good finish and hopefully this week Leopard Creek can be kind to me for a change.

“I’ll go to the Kruger Park tomorrow with my wife and little ones. You wake up early in the mornings for a drive or two, play golf in the afternoons and sit around a fire at night. It’s not going to get much better than that.

“This is definitely my favourite golf course in South Africa. I always love coming here and it’s always in great condition.

“It will be a good challenge - it’s a golf course where you can shoot a low number, but it’s going to bite you. It’s got tough stretches in the middle and you need to be on your game.”
