On the tee: at the BMW International Open

Fans at the BMW International Open in Cologne will not have to wait long to get a glimpse of their hero Martin Kaymer, with the US Open Champion set to tee off at 0740 on Thursday.

The two-tee start will see the German get his quest for a second home title under way alongside big-hitter Nicolas Colsaerts, and another home favourite, Marcel Siem.

With such a top field on show at Gut Lärchenhof, the galleries will have plenty of internationals stars to cheer on throughout the day, including  World Number Two Henrik Stenson who tees off  from the first at 1240.

The Swede finished in a tie for fourth place behind Kaymer at the US Open, and will hope for another strong showing when he starts his challenge alongside rising star Victor Dubuisson and Austria’s Bernd Wiesberger.

Another man heading to Cologne in winning form is last week’s Irish Open victor Mikko Ilonen. He will head off from the tenth at 0730 with 11-time European Tour winner Sergio Garcia and Welshman Jamie Donaldson.

Other interesting groups include Race to Dubai leader Thomas Björn, back after missing the last few weeks through injury, play with Spain’s Pablo Larrazábal and young Englishman Tommy Fleetwood.

There are 12 former BMW International Open winners in this week’s field, including double champion Björn (2000 & 2002), the in-form Kaymer (2008) and Stenson (2006).

Danny Willet is among that group – after his win the last time this event was held at Gut Lärchenhof in 2012 – and he will have Rafael Cabrera-Bello and Ross Fisher for company over the first two days, with the trio teeing off the first at 1210.
