Olympics loaded with European Challenge Tour stars of past and present

The 2021 Men’s Olympic Golf Competition will tee off tomorrow with many European Challenge Tour players of past and present representing their countries at Kasumigaseki Country Club in Japan from July 29 – August 1.

Fleetwood

There is a long list of players who will be competing this year at the Olympics who currently compete on the European Challenge Touror have done in the past. In amongst the names include Great Britain representative and former Challenge Tour player Tommy Fleetwood and 2020 Challenge Tour Number One Onrej Lieser, representing the Czech Republic.

Fleetwood and Lieser will both be making their Olympic debuts tomorrow along with South Africa’s Garrick Higgo who competed on the Challenge Tour in 2019 and has been in terrific form on the 2021 Race to Dubai recording wins at the Gran Canaria Lopesan Open and the Canary Islands Championship – two victories in the space of three weeks. The 2018 Challenge Tour Number One Joachim B. Hansen will be representing Denmark and currently competes on the European Tour. He recorded wins in his European Challenge Tour career at the Made in Denmark Challenge presented by Ejner Hessel in 2018 and the Turkish Airlines Challenge in 2018.

Antoine Rozner will be flying the French flag alongside fellow former Challenge Tour player Romain Langasque. Rozner finished eighth on the 2019 Road to Mallorca Rankings after recording wins at the Challenge de España and Prague Golf Challenge.

Ranked fifth on the 2019 Road to Mallorca, Adrian Meronk will have his whole country watching him as Poland’s sole golf competitor at this year’s Olympics. The 57º Open de Portugal @ Morgado Golf Resort winner has been proving himself on the European Tour, securing two tied third positions at the Tenerife Open and the Betfred British Masters hosted by Danny Willett.

Germany’s Hurly Long and Norway’s Kristian Krogh Johannessen currently compete on the European Challenge Tour and will both be looking forward to representing their countries in Japan. Long who won the Italian Challenge Open Eneos Motor Oil in October of last year has been in consistent form recording six top 20 finishes on the 2021 European Challenge Tour schedule and currently sits in 12th place on the Road to Mallorca Rankings. Johannessen takes up 16th position on the Rankings and has also recorded six top 20 finishes in the 2021 schedule.
