Olesen set to defend in Perth

Danish star Thorbjørn Olesen has announced he will defend his Perth International title when the tournament returns to Lake Karrinyup Country Club from February 25-28, 2016.

The 26 year old claimed his second European Tour title in Perth in October 2014, and later added a third in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews last October.

“I have some great memories from my last visit to Perth and am really looking forward to defending my title at Lake Karrinyup,” said Olesen.

French Ryder Cup star Victor Dubuisson, who finished runner-up to Olesen in 2014, and 2010 Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen have also committed to play, and the field promises to be the strongest the event has seen since its inception in 2012.

“I made a good run at Thorbjørn in the final round last time, so hopefully I can go one better this time around. Lake Karrinyup is a wonderful course and I look forward to getting back there,” said Dubuisson.

WA’s acting Tourism Minister, Albert Jacob, said: “The State Government is proud to sponsor the Perth International through Tourism WA because it really helps put Perth and WA on the map.

“Big names mean more broadcast interest. The Perth International generates tens of millions of dollars of media coverage across Australia and in key international markets such as China, Indonesia, Germany, the UK and the US.”

Minister Jacob said hosting international sporting events of this calibre was part of the State Government’s strategy to grow the value of tourism from the current $8.9 billion to $12 billion by 2020.

Tickets for the Perth International start from $22 and are available through Ticketmaster.  Children under 16 will gain free entry with a paying adult.
