Olesen keeping chasing pack at bay

Thorbjørn Olesen produced a steady rather than spectacular front nine to maintain his lead during the third round of the Lyoness Open powered by Greenfinity at Diamond Country Club.

The 22 year old Dane, three clear at the halfway stage, birdied both par fives on the way out and parred the remaining holes to turn in a two under 34.

That took the Sicilian Open winner to 14 under for the week, three clear of France’s Benjamin Hebert and England’s Richard Bland.

Hebert was producing one of the rounds of the week with eight birdies and only one bogey in his first 15 holes.

Bland, still searching for his first European Tour title in his 281st event, had three birdies in four holes from the sixth to join him.

Thomas Levet, second overnight, had a mixed front nine but was still in a share of fourth with home favourite Bernd Wiesberger.

The veteran Frenchman dropped shots at the first and third but birdied the long sixth, then sunk putts of eight and 12 feet for gains at the eighth and ninth.

Hebert added another birdie on the 16th to sign for a joint-best-of-the-week 64 and set the clubhouse target at 12 under.

“I played fantastically well,” he said. “I used a lot of irons off the tee to try to keep the ball in play, because if you find the rough out there you sometimes don't have a chance to go for the greens.”

Olesen birdied the tenth and 11th to advance to 16 under, but Wiesberger, Levet and Bland kept the pressure on by all moving to 13 under.
