Olesen aiming for dream week on home soil

Thorbjørn Olesen admits it would be a dream come true to become the first Dane to win the Made in Denmark as he looks to secure his place in the Ryder Cup Team at Silkeborg Ry Golf Club.

Any result better than a tie for seventh with two others would see Olesen claim an automatic place in countryman Thomas Bjørn's Team to face the United States at Le Golf National but the 28 year old has his sights firmly set on victory.

Olesen is in a fine run of form, with his maiden Rolex Series triumph at the Italian Open sparking a run of five top six finishes in his last nine events, and he will have a typically vociferous Danish backing at one of the best-supported events of the season.

A sixth European Tour win on home soil would be the perfect way to secure a first multiple-winning season and Olesen is excited by the prospect.

“It would mean everything,” he said. “It's kind of like the fifth Major for us, the crowds have been amazing and to win on home soil would be very, very special - it's a dream. There's been a few Danish guys go close so far and hopefully one of us can do it this time.

“So far every year has been great, the support from the spectators and all the staff and the sponsors, it's been a great venue not just for the Danish players but all the players have enjoyed it so far so I'm looking forward to getting to a new venue this time - I've heard a lot of good things about the golf course so I'm looking forward to seeing it.

“I had a good break, I think I needed it. I think I played ten out of 12 weeks or something so it was nice to get back and get a couple of days with the feet up just relaxing and then getting back into practice and trying to get ready for this week.”

Olesen currently holds the final automatic qualifying spot for Bjørn's Team as Europe aim to win a seventh Ryder Cup in the last 11 stagings.

Bjørn played in three of those victorious sides and Olesen could not speak highly enough of a 15-time European Tour winner who is also a great friend.

“If you just look who has been Captain before for Ryder Cup and then you have Thomas this time, I think he fully deserves it with what he's done for golf,” he said.

“How many tournaments he's won and Ryder Cups he's played, he's a big name not just in Denmark but everywhere in the world. For us it's very special to see a Danish guy doing that job and I'm sure he's going to do a great job.”
