Olesen aiming for big finish in Sweden

Thorbjørn Olesen is relishing the chance to challenge for a second European Tour title of the season after a third-round 67 kept him right in contention heading into Sunday at the Nordea Masters.

The Dane has five top 15s in his last eight appearances, including his maiden Rolex Series win at the Italian Open, and will start round four just three shots off the lead at Hills Golf Club.

A good result this week would not only continue that fine form but also further enhance the 28 year old's chances of securing a place on the soon-to-be finalised Ryder Cup Team to face the United States at Le Golf National next month.

Olesen, however, is keeping his mind in the moment and knows he will need a good performance on Sunday if he is to overhaul Thomas Aiken and Paul Waring.

“I have to shoot a really good number tomorrow to have a chance,” he said.

“I would love to be a couple of shots closer but it looks like I still have a chance. So I'm going to go out there tomorrow and hopefully I can play like I did on the back nine and yesterday and give myself a lot of chances.

“I'm going to enjoy tomorrow, that's for sure. I love being up there and in contention. Obviously I have to play my best to have a chance but I'm looking forward to it.”

The five-time European Tour winner bogeyed the first after finding sand but holed a very long putt on the fourth and put his tee-shot to eight feet on the par three next.

A double-bogey after finding the water on the seventh dropped him back but he holed a long putt on the eighth to turn in level par.

Another long putt on the 11th was followed by a ten-footer on the 12th and when Olesen hit a stunning approach into the 16th, he was well positioned for Sunday.

“I didn't hit the ball as well as I did yesterday, that's for sure,” he added. “It was a bit of a battle on the front nine. I was quite pleased to get it around in level par, actually, I hit some poor shots and a couple of really good putts went in there.

“Then I started hitting it well again on the back nine and made a few birdies. It was tough conditions so three under is a pretty good score.”
