Europe's Ryder Cup Captain José María Olazábal impressed in the early stages of the third round in the the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.

The Spaniard was seven shots adrift of the lead heading into today at the Castle Stuart Golf Links.

He began in sensational style, however, birdying the first before delivering an eagle on the par five second.

A bogey on five undermined his progress somewhat, though he remained in solid shape on seven under - one shot adrift of the day’s outstanding performer thus far, Felipe Aguilar.

The Chilean was the epitome of solid golf through his first 13, delivering four birdies to combine with nine pars.

That left him four shots adrift of leaders Alexander Noren and Francesco Molinari, who will tee off at 1:12pm.

Alongside Aguilar were Scotsman Steven O’Hara and Spaniard José Manuel Lara, who were four under for the day through ten and nine respectively.

Ernie Els was seven under after picking up three shots in his first 11 holes, while fellow three time Major Champion Padraig Harrington parred the first two and remained six under.
