Noren keen to burn bright at Firestone

Alex Noren is keen to improve his WGC-Bridgestone Invitational record at Firestone Country Club this week.

With six European Tour titles to his name over the last three seasons, the BMW PGA Championship winner has never been in better form.

And having reached the third WGC of the season for the first time in six years, the Swede is keen to make an impact.

"My history here is not as good as I want it to be," said Noren, who finished tied for 53rd in both his previous appearances in 2010 and 2011. "Two not-so-good finishes. Not terrible, but not very good.

"It was quite a long time ago the first one, I think 2010. The second one, I don't know when it was. I'm trying to improve on it."

"When you're here for the first time, you're just in awe of everything that's going on and all the players. Now I've got a different mindset.

"To win it would be unbelievable, but it's just nice to be in these tournaments where all the best are and you play against them, you get better as a golfer just playing these events."

Noren reached the last eight of the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play earlier this season to record his best World Golf Championships finish, and his tied sixth in the Open at Birkdale recently represents his highest finish in a major championship.

"It's all taking steps in the right direction," he added.

"I had the best major finish, sixth at the Open. It's tough to go from not being close to winning to winning, I think, so you've got to take those small steps.

"I feel that my game is better than it was before and especially these last two years it's been very good for my confidence, playing good in bigger events, which I struggled with before.

"As soon as I come to a big event, I don't think I can do as well as I want to, and if you have that mindset it's not going to go very well. So I feel better coming to events like this now. The last two years have been good."
