Nirat starts well in Munich

Thailand's Chapchai Nirat birdied six of his first seven holes to shoot into an early lead at the BMW International Open in Munich.

The 27 year old raced out of the blocks with birdies at the first two holes followed by four gains in a row from the fourth.

The former TCL Classic winner dropped a shot at the par five ninth, but still turned in a five under 31 to lead by one from Australian duo Peter O'Malley and Andrew Tampion and Ireland's Simon Thornton and Welsh Ryder Cup star Phillip Price.

O'Malley, who won the last of his three European Tour titles nine years ago at the English Open, enjoyed six birdies in his first ten holes but a dropped shot at the 13th prevented him sharing the lead.

Tampion has only made the cut twice this season but returned to form with a bogey free 32 over the front nine, while Thornton was four under through 13 holes at Golfclub München Eichenried.
