The big-hitting Belgian has been struggling with a kidney condition since the winter and is making just his fifth appearance of the season at The Celtic Manor Resort.

He played the opening two Rolex Series events of the campaign and the Ras Al Khaimah Championship presented by Phoenix Capital but since February had teed it up only on home soil at the Soudal Open as he underwent treatment in Dubai.

But he is now ready to get back into the groove and could not hide his delight to be playing again, even in the sometimes less than ideal Welsh weather.

"I'm feeling great," he said. "I'm really, really happy to be here, this is only my fifth event of the year.

"As everyone knows I got into a little bit of health issues over the winter but it's great to see everyone, it's great to play golf again.

"I was on the range at seven o'clock in the morning yesterday in the drizzle and I was the happiest man on Earth so I'm really happy to be here."
