Niall Horan takes centre stage for Funday Wednesday at the NI Open

There is rarely a better day than Pro-Am Wednesday of tournament week for the chance to get up close to the stars of the fairways and celebrities as they have a bit of fun trying to beat each other for the bragging rights but also enjoy some good old fashioned Northern Irish craic along the way.

Fun and games will be aplenty during today’s Pro-Am, the celebrity curtain-raiser ahead of the Tayto Northern Ireland Open, in partnership with Ulster Bank, at Galgorm Castle.

The timesheet reads like a who’s who with most eyes set to be on the Modest! Golf team where One Direction’s Niall Horan will be putting his golfing skills to the test. Of course he will be hoping his drives go in only One Direction - that’s straight down the middle of the fairway.

Regular NI Open supporters such as Northern Ireland goalkeeping legend Pat Jennings, former Ulster and Lions rugby player Stephen Ferris plus the BBC’s Stephen Watson and Joel Taggart will all be in action for the Pro-Am.

“The NI Open is such a great event for all the family and we are sure to have a bit of fun on and off the course during the Pro-Am,” said Horan. “I recommend all the family comes along to Galgorm and gets involved because there is so much to see and do. I for one can’t wait to play Galgorm.”

Pro-Am day will also mark the official opening of the brand new Fun Golf Area, boasting a six-hole short course and Himalayas putting green, a replica of the original at the Home of Golf in St Andrews.

NI Open Tournament Ambassador Michael Hoey will be on hand at the Fun Golf Area taking on all celebrities who fancy their chances against the five-time European Tour winner. We know who our money will be on!

“The Pro-Am and opening of the Fun Golf Area is an excellent start to what promises to be a very special week,” explains Gary Henry, Galgorm Castle Managing Director and NI Open Tournament Director.

“Every year we try to introduce something new to the NI Open, activities for all the family to enjoy. This year is no exception as we have so many great activities taking place across the estate. Attending the NI Open is an excellent day out for all the family, especially as it is free to enter.”

There is still time to register for FREE NI Open ticketshere. Spectators can keep up to date with all the latest news and scores on the NI Open app, which can be downloaded for iPhone and Android devices.

Official Supplier Translink have also made it easy to get to and from Galgorm with a dedicated bus and rail timetable to get spectators to and from the golf course each day. For more information, download the NI Open app or visit www.translink.co.uk/niopen.

The Tayto Northern Ireland Open, in partnership with Ulster Bank, gets underway with the Pro-Am at Galgorm on Wednesday 27th July before the 72-hole tournament starts on Thursday 28th July.
