NI Open delayed for six hours by bad weather

The start of the Tayto Northern Ireland Open in partnership with Ulster Bank has been delayed by six hours due to localised flooding of the course at Galgorm Castle Golf Club.

Tournament Director Mikael Eriksson, in consultation with referees and local groundstaff, made the decision to delay the start of play this morning.

After a six-hour delay, it has been ruled that the course is now playable.

The first groups will go out at 13:30pm on a two-tee start.

“The rain started at four o’clock this morning,” said Eriksson. “And that continued throughout the entire morning.

“Several greens had been flooded, but the groundstaff have been working hard to push away the water which has been coming back during the day.

“We hope to play until around half past nine this evening. Unfortunately, we won’t finish the first round today, but we should be able to catch up tomorrow.”
