New Performance Center opens for business in Crans

A stunning new state-of-the art facility for golfing excellence has opened in Crans-sur-Sierre during the first round of the Omega European Masters.

Vice Chairman of the PGA European Tour, Angel Gallardo, and European Tour Chief Executive, George O'Grady open the new facility at Crans-sur-Sierre

The Swiss Franc 5.5 million (£4 million) Performance Center, incorporating the Angel Gallardo Golf Academy at the home of the European Masters since 1939, was two years in the planning and construction.

However the indoor section of the facility, which opened for business six months ago, has already given around 1500 individual lessons and the outdoor area has welcomed the world class players of The European Tour this week to great acclaim.

Gallardo, the Vice Chairman of the PGA European Tour, was involved in all the planning and construction phases and, in inaugurating the new facility in the presence of club officials and European Tour Chief Executive George O’Grady, said: “This is a very proud moment for everyone concerned with the project.

“It has taken over two years to get to this point, but we all feel that the Performance Center will be a massive benefit to everyone in the area. We have had people come from Geneva and Lausanne to use the facility and it is wonderful to know that when it is -20 degrees centigrade outside in winter, people can still practice their golf swings.

“It is nice to know that anyone can go ski-ing here in the morning and get a golf lesson in the afternoon!”

The Performance Center contains a golf simulator, video swing analysis area, putting analysis on an indoor green and food and beverage facilities while a huge net at the end of the driving range can catch even the longest drive.
