New Orleans win boosts Rose ranking

England’s Justin Rose climbed from ninth to sixth in the Official Golf World Ranking after claiming his first win of 2015 at the US PGA Tour’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Justin Rose celebrates his win in Louisiana

The former US Open Champion carded a closing six under par 66 at TPC Louisiana to finish 22 under par for the week - one clear of American Cameron Trinagle - and with it secured his first victory since the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open last July.

Rose, who began Sunday one shot off the lead following a weather-affected day of action on Saturday, made three birdies in his last five holes to take the title and jump three spots up the World Ranking to sixth – where he started the year.

Elsewhere, Rose’s compatriot and Ryder Cup team-mate Lee Westwood moved from 33rd to 27th in the World Ranking after overcoming a late wobble to complete a hat-trick of CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters victories at Royale Jakarta Golf Club.

Despite leading by five shots with 18 holes remaining, a closing one over par 73 left the 42 year old Nottinghamshire native level at the close of regulation play with Thailand’s Chapchai Nirat, who fired a final round 66, meaning additional holes were required to determine a result.

However, Westwood, a victor at the same event in 2011 and 2012, held his nerve as a birdie at the first sudden-death play-off hole secured a 42nd professional title.

Meanwhile, China’s Wu Ashun jumped 121 places in the world standings from 247th to 126th with his win at the Volvo China Open last week as Argentina’s Emiliano Grillo and Frenchman Romain Wattel moved inside the top 100 with their top ten finishes at the Tomson Shanghai Pudong Golf Club.
