Nedbank Golf Challenge - Day two digest

Gary Player CC

Pavon co-leads after powering ahead at the turn, a former international footballer mixed with golfing stars and there were unexpected visitors on the green in Sun City.

Here is everything you need to know about Friday's action at Gary Player Country Club.

Ryo Hot-start-sune

The Japanese golfer is in stirring form after claiming his maiden DP World Tour title at the Cazoo Open de France last month. He opened with a 67 on Thursday and began his second round with his monster effort...

The 21-year-old then holed out for arguably the best par save of the day after putting his tee-shot at the fourth into the water.

Hisatsune also felt chipper at the 12th to get in the red numbers for second round.

Pavon powers through the turn

The Frenchman has been in terrific recent form, yielding the first DP World Tour crown of his career at the acciona Open de España presented by Madrid last month. Pavon slipped under the radar on Thursday after a 67, but surged into the lead thanks to a brilliant three-hole stretch at the turn. He produced one of the shots of the day from the rough at the eighth, which he nearly holed out for an eagle two before settling for a birdie. He tapped in another at the ninth after narrowly missing a huge eagle effort and the big bird followed at the next after sticking his second shot at the par-five hole to seven feet. Pavon was joined at the top of the leaderboard by Max Homa, who has yet to drop a shot in Sun City.

Bradbury bags birdie bonus

Bradbury admitted that the eagle putt from 75 feet which he drained on Thursday to get into the overnight co-lead was a "bonus" and probably felt the same when he holed this 51-foot effort for his first birdie of the second round at the seventh to get himself back in the leadership group. The Englishman bogeyed the last to drop one behind Pavon and Homa.

Richie Ramsay feeling chipper

The Scot moved into contention after carding a 69 to sit three behind the leaders at seven under. He was flawless on his front nine, carding three birdies, but it was his fourth gain of the day which highlighted his superb wedge play.

Football meets golf in Sun City

There was sporting rivalry on show at the driving range before Friday' s action as former England and Liverpool striker Michael Owen watched Tommy Fleetwood go through his pre-round routine. Fleetwood and his caddie Ian Finnis, who is married to former England Women's goalkeeper Rachel Brown-Finnis, are both Everton fans and could be heard joking about the Reds' Europa League defeat with the club's former marksman.

Impalas in play!

The wildlife is a stunning bonus when playing at Gary Player Country Club and it was no different on Friday when two unexpected visitors decided to take to the course. There was a bit of shadow play between the two impalas on one of the greens, bringing a brilliant spectacle for the fans and players in Sun City.
