Mullen moves ahead at Dunhill Links

Jimmy Mullen continued his impressive start to professional golf as he moved into the solo lead early on day two of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Mullen and fellow professional debutant Paul Dunne both made the headlines in round one as a pair of 64s at Kingsbarns sent them to the top of the leaderboard alongside Kristoffer Broberg.

And the duo picked up where they left off when they resumed their campaigns at St Andrews with Dunne making a birdie on the first to move to the top of the pile, a position he is familiar with on the Old Course after leading the Open Championship this summer.

That birdie took him above Mullen, starting in the first group out, as the Englishman bogeyed the fourth but he bounced back with a gain at the fifth and further birdies on the seventh and ninth holes got him to the turn in 34 and with a one shot lead at ten under.

Dunne then bogeyed the fourth to drop back to eight under alongside Broberg but the Swede soon picked up a shot on the 11th at Carnoustie to reduce Mullen's lead to one.

Martin Kaymer was the big mover on the leaderboard in the early stages as he leapt to eight under at Kingsbarns.

The German lost out in a play-off to Rikard Karlberg last time out at the 72° OPEN D'ITALIA presented by DAMIANI but looked in good form and maintained that with two birdies and an eagle in his opening eight holes.

Richard Bland and Anthony Wall both started with pars to remain at seven under while Alejandro Cañizares was a shot back in a large group after picking up three birdies in his opening eight holes at Carnoustie.
