Morrison’s compatriot Tommy Fleetwood looked set to top the leaderboard when he reached seven under par in his second round, but after a delay of one hour and 20 minutes caused by lightning the former Challenge Tour winner bogeyed his last two holes on returning to the Blackstone Golf club layout.

That saw the 22 year old sign for a 71 and five under halfway total, which Morrison and Noren quickly surpassed.

Former Madeira Islands Open winner Morrison birdied two of his last three holes in a blemish-free 66 that took him to six under par for the week, with Noren birdieing four of his last six holes for a 67 to join him.

Out on the course Thailand’s Arnond Vongvanij held the outright lead on seven under for the week with six holes to play – the recent Asian Tour winner yet to drop a shot all week.

Australian Wade Ormsby was alongside Morrison and Noren on six under with two to play, while overnight leaders Johan Edfors, Matthew Baldwin, Kim Gi-whan and Kieran Pratt were yet to tee off after their opening five under par 67s. However, the fifth member of leading quintet, Jean-Baptiste Gonnet, opened with a double bogey to drop back to three under.
