Monty hoping Masters magic strikes for third time

Colin Montgomerie is excited to return to the Duke’s Course at Woburn Golf Club in September as he chases a hat-trick of wins in the Travis Perkins Masters on the event’s 15th anniversary.

The legendary Scot, an eight-time winner of the European Tour Order of Merit, winner of three Senior Major Championships and runner up at the US Senior Open Championship last weekend, claimed his first European Senior Tour victory at the event in 2013.

He retained his title with a dominant ten shot win last year, and as he seeks to become only the second player to win a Senior Tour event three times in a row, after Carl Mason (English Senior Open 2006), the 52 year old is confident with his game.

“It’s always special to come to the Travis Perkins Masters, especially as reigning champion,” he said.

“I’ve had fond memories round here ever since I won the British Masters in 1998, and it was fantastic to get my first Senior Tour win here in 2013 as well.

“The course always looks perfect and the way it sets up seems to suit my game well. Plus we always have great support, some of the best crowds of the season, which all adds to the occasion.

“I’ve been playing well for the last couple of years now and I’m happy to be able to play competitive golf and challenge for titles. I hope that can continue in September.”

The Travis Perkins Masters runs from September 4-6, with an increased prize fund for 2015 of £320,000 - a rise of £20,000 from last year.

Travis Perkins plc is the title sponsor for the eighth consecutive edition and has extended its sponsorship of the event until 2018.

Woburn Golf Club will be in the spotlight again from October 8-11 as the British Masters supported by Sky Sports returns to the Marquess Course for the first time since 2002, with the tournament back on The European Tour International Schedule after a seven year absence.

Combined tickets are available allowing spectators substantially discounted entry to both the British Masters and the Travis Perkins Masters.

A combined any one day ticket for the British Masters and any one day for the Travis Perkins Masters costs £27.50 (£17.50 concessions) if purchased before September 1, while a season ticket for the British Masters plus an any one day ticket for the Travis Perkins Masters costs £67.50 (concessions £42.50).
