Montgomerie in contention in Pittsburgh

Colin Montgomerie continued his strong start to life as a senior golfer by remaining in contention at the Constellation Senior Players Championship on the US Champions Tour.

The Scot, who turned 50 on June 23, was three under par through 12 holes at Fox Chapel Club in Pittsburgh when heavy rain stopped play in the second round.

That left him in a share of tenth position, seven shots off the pace set by Fred Couples, who was seven under par for the round through 11 holes.

Couples will defend his title in The Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex at Royal Birkdale next month, with Montgomerie also in the field for the first time.

Roger Chapman, who defends his US Senior Open title next month, is a further shot back on three under par after completing 13 holes of his second round.
