Monaghan Irish Challenge: In Numbers

Concra Wood Golf Club will make its debut on the European Challenge Tour when the Monaghan Irish Challenge gets under way on Thursday. Here are ten statistics ahead of the final Challenge Tour event of the season on European soil.

19 –players from the island of Ireland will tee it up this week, including GolfSixes 2018 champion Gavin Moynihan and the 2017 Christy O’Connor Jnr Memorial Trophy winner Ruaidhri McGee.

Six – 2018 Challenge Tour winners are in the field this week; Pedro Figueiredo, Calum Hill, David Law, Stuart Manley, Ben Stow and Oliver Wilson.

Four –tournaments to go until the end of the Challenge Tour season. The Monaghan Irish Challenge is followed by back-to-back events in China before the Ras Al Khaimah Challenge Tour Grand Final at the end of October.

7,258 – the length, in yards, of the course at Concra Wood. It includes several picturesque holes, including the 594-yard double dog-leg par five, which sits next to Lough Muckno.

First – visit to Concra Wood for the Challenge Tour. The fourth edition of the Irish Challenge takes place in Castleblayney, County Monaghan, having been played at Mount Wolseley Hotel Spa and Golf Resort for the last three years.

67,683 – Road to Ras Al Khaimah points is the amount Marcel Schneider has accumulated so far this season and therefore sits in 15thplace in the Rankings. With only four players from the Road to Ras Al Khaimah top 15 in action in Ireland, there will be chances for the players on the cusp to break into those illustrious spots.

Three – EuroPro Tour events were held at Concra Wood between 2012 and 2014.

2016 –Irish Challenge champion Bernd Ritthammer will look to claim his second title on Irish soil. The German triumphed at Mount Wolseley Hotel Spa and Golf Resort two years ago with rounds of 72-70-66-70 to win by five strokes ahead of Marcus Armitage and Sam Walker.
