Molinari looking to cement Ryder Cup place

Francesco Molinari vowed to give his all to make Colin Montgomerie's Ryder Cup Team after a solid start to the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational.

The Italian is currently occupying one of the nine automatic qualification spots, but with this week's WGC event followed by the season's last Major - the US PGA Championship - Molinari knows things can change very quickly before the race to be part of the action at The Celtic Manor Resort finishes later this month at Gleneagles.

Molinari, whose brother Edoardo is also in the running for a place in the European Team, was satisfied to open his account at Firestone with a level par 70, six behind early clubhouse leader Bubba Watson.

"Not bad as a start - I played well on the front nine but struggled a bit on the back nine," said the Omega Mission Hills World Cup winner.

"If you hit fairways and greens it is not playing that tough and you can be quite aggressive with the irons. I'm quite happy though.

"I am looking forward to this week and next week and it's the last few shots to try and make The Ryder Cup Team.

"It is not easy but I would love to be in Wales. There are some great players outside the team trying to do their best to make the team in these last few weeks. I just have to go out and try and play well tournament by tournament."

On the prospect of being joined by his older brother in Wales in October, Molinari added: "It is not easy for him coming from The Challenge Tour as he had less tournaments than the others but he is quite close on the World Ranking points and can still make the team. If not he is still a top 20 player in the world."
