At 50 years old, Miguel Angel Jiménez might be the oldest player in the field for the WGC – Cadillac Championship, but the Spaniard might also be having the most fun after a third round 69 left him just four shots back.
Jiménez improved on his second round score by eight shots to move into a share of sixth position, posting birdies on the eighth, tenth, 12thand 17thholes following his only bogey of the day on the fifth hole.
The 20-time European Tour winner lost in a play-off to Tiger Woods in the 1999 tournament at Trump National Doral, but has not finished in the top ten since.
However, despite being eligible for the European Senior Tour, he is relishing the chance to continue contending with the best players in the world.
“I still enjoy what I do, that's the main thing,” he said. “I enjoy what I do in my life and I enjoy to play golf and I enjoy to compete. That's probably the main thing. Then I'm not lazy to go to practice or go to the putting green or go to the gym work. But the main thing is that you have to enjoy what you do in your life, and I do.”
The Ryder Cup player believes that philosophy will serve him well in his bid to win a first World Golf Championships event on Sunday.
“Winning or not winning, what I will try to do is still enjoy myself,” he said. “That's the main thing. That is the only way you can catch someone. I'm human. You just concentrate on what you are doing and try to enjoy yourself.”
