McKenzie scores a Volkswagen Golf

The 8th hole at Lake Karrinyup Country Club is said to be the most difficult Par-3 of the course, but not so for Victorian David McKenzie.  Acing the hole in Round 3 of the ISPS HANDA Perth International, McKenzie scored himself a Volkswagen Golf 90TSI.

PGA Tour of Australasia professional McKenzie won the Victorian PGA Championship earlier this year.  He said this was his first hole in one in 14 years and it was a great boost for him today.

“The last time was at the Australian Open in 1999.  Before the 8th I wasn't doing too well but the hole in one was a fantastic kick start and it’s put me at -1.

“When I was teeing off the hole, the ball actually didn't go where I was aiming but it worked out alright though!  I didn't see it go in but I heard everyone yelling and screaming so I thought something had happened.  When everyone went ‘up’ then I knew,” he said.

McKenzie is already the proud owner of a Volkswagen.  “We bought a Jetta earlier this year and I was only talking with my wife last week about replacing my car.”

Sabrina Remeseiro, Volkswagen Australia Sponsorships and Events Specialist, and ISPS HANDA Perth International Tournament Director Simon Corkill presented McKenzie with keys to the Volkswagen Golf.

Remeseiro said it was wonderful to be able to hand the keys over for the Hole In One prize.

“Scoring a hole in one is such a rare achievement so I congratulate David, on behalf of Volkswagen Australia, on not only his new Volkswagen Golf but also on his golfing prowess!”

McKenzie has won a seventh generation Volkswagen Golf, which was launched in Australia earlier this year.    The Golf is the World Car of the Year in 2013, making it the fourth time in five years a Volkswagen has won World Car of the Year.

Tomorrow will be the final round of the ISPS HANDA Perth International, Australia’s richest tour event.  It is the only Australian tournament to be co-sanctioned by the European Tour and the PGA Tour of Australasia and is proudly supported by the International Sports Promotion Society (ISPS), and the Western Australian Government, through Eventscorp.
