In 2015, the Race to Dubai champion shared videos of hisankle injury rehaband then ignited rumours about his return to golf when he sharedthis videoof his swing ahead of the US PGA Championship.

Today, McIlroy shared a video of some putting practice ahead of the year's first World Golf Championship event in Florida. It shows the four-time Major winner using a new, left-below-right putting grip.

While McIlroy has struggled somewhat on the greens so far in 2016, notching one top five finish in four worldwide starts so far, he has ranked highly on The European Tour in his putting statistics in recent years.

In the eight years since he joined the Tour in 2008, McIlroy has ranked inside the top 25 in Putts per Greens in Regulation six times. In 2015, he ranked 18th, averaging 1.743 putts per green hit.

Clearly McIlroy feels he needs to improve on the greens to regain the World Number One spot, a position he vacated in September last year.

During his last win, at the 2015 DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, he ranked inside the top five in both Putts per Round (28.3) and Putts per GIR (1.667), thanks to strokes like this one.

Will the new grip work this week? Stay tuned as hetees off alongside Jordan Spieth and Jason Dayin the first round at 11.32am (EST).
