Paul holes gutsy putt at 18th for maiden win

Rookie Yannik Paul claimed his maiden DP World Tour title in dramatic fashion after holing a clutch birdie putt at the 18th to win by a single shot. On an afternoon of twists and turns, Paul had been in the driving seat on the back nine before a two-shot swing at the 15th handed his playing partner Marcus Armitage a two-stroke lead with three holes to play. But Armitage dropped three shots over the next two holes and Paul coolly slotted in his difficult 15-foot birdie try from the fringe at the last to deny Paul Waring and Nicolai von Dellingshausen a play-off. "I'm speechless, honestly, I'm just so happy," he said. "My girlfriend and I, we worked a lot on my mental side and we were dreaming that she would be here for my first win, and she's here now, it's unbelievable."

Von Dellingshausen keeps his card

Von Dellingshausen was delighted to achieve his goal of storming up the DP World Tour Rankings in Partnership with Rolex after a closing birdie saw him finish in a tie for second. The German started the week 121st in the standings and, with tournaments running out, set himself the target of securing his playing rights for next season. Having produced rounds of 71, 66 and 64 across the opening three days, Von Dellingshausen birdied the 11th, 15th and 18th to finish the tournament on 14 under and jump up to 77th in the season-long race. "In this sport results don’t always show up when you want them so I had to keep my patience high," he said. "It paid off now, I think I’ve secured my card with this for sure. That was my main goal going into this week and now I’ve achieved it so I’m super happy."

All to play for

Von Dellingshausen may well have secured his card and be now looking at sneaking into the Nedbank Golf Challenge and DP World Tour Championship, but there is plenty left to play for at both ends of the Rankings. Ryan Fox's ninth top ten of the season moved him into second but the drama came around the battle to get into the all-important top 117. Jazz Janewattananond started the week 127th but was comfortably inside the mark when he eagled the 11th from 46 feet to get into a share of second. He then went bogey-double bogey before a birdie on the 17th moved him to 116th on the season with one event to go in the race to keep cards. Fine margins.

After a perfect drive at the tenth, Nicolai Højgaard hit a beautiful iron shot that looked certain to spin back to within tap-in range. Then this happened.

Where's Waring?

Waring produced a brilliant round of 66 to finish in a share of second but he didn't seem to want us to see it. First he was hiding on the eighth.

And then again on the 13th.
