Major winners grouped in US PGA draw

This season’s Major Champions - Charl Schwartzel of South Africa, and the Northern Irish heroes Darren Clarke and Rory McIlroy - take star billing in the draw for next week’s US PGA Championship at Atlanta Athletic Club in the traditional grouping for the first two days.

The three Major Champions will start their bids to win a second Grand Slam event at 1.45pm from the first in what will be an historic occasion for the European Tour with all three being European Tour Members for the first time.

Martin Kaymer begins his defence of the title at 1.15pm in the company of two other former champions in 2010 winner Y.E. Yang and Shaun Micheel, the 2003 Champion.

World Number One Luke Donald plays with Spaniard Alvaro Quiros and American Nick Watney, teeing off at 8.25am and will be followed by Tiger Woods, Padraig Harrington and American Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III.

All three are former winners of the title - Harrington three years ago, Love in 1997 and Woods four times between 1999 and 2007.

The trio will tee off at 8.35am from the 10th tee next Thursday, Woods' participation coming a week after his return from the knee and Achilles tendon injuries that kept him out of the US Open and The Open.

World Number Two Lee Westwood tees off in the afternoon at 1.55pm followed by 2010 US Open Champion Graeme McDowell, paired with Geoff Ogilvy and Zach Johnson.

David Toms, who held off Phil Mickelson to win the title at the course a decade ago, is grouped with twice winner Vijay Singh.
