Lyoness Open goes green again in Atzenbrugg

The Lyoness Open powered by Sporthilfe Cashback Card will be playing its part in protecting the environment for the fifth year running with the help of the Lyoness Greenfinity Foundation.

Since 2011, Greenfinity have been working to make the event more sustainable and to reduce the ecological footprint. From 2012 to 2015, the footprint per person dropped more than 27 per cent and was reduced by 18 per cent just between 2014 and 2015.

In spite of the significant improvements made possible by the partnership in relation to mobility and transport, it still accounted for 72 per cent of the tournament’s footprint at last year’s event. As a result, Greenfinity are putting in place even more designs to reduce the tournament’s impact on the environment.

The measures that are being taken to improve the 2016 edition’s ecological footprint include:

• Use of electric cars for the shuttle service
• Buses which take spectators from Graz, Salzburg and Vienna to the tournament
• Use of existing infrastructure
• Less use of air conditioning
• Use of regional or local food
• Waste management improvement – bio-degradable materials and reusable dishes
• €1 per parking ticket goes towards Generationwald, a reforestation project in Purkersdorf.

Visitors to this year’s tournament in Atzenbrugg will also be able to work out their own ecological footprint. and offset it by making a donation to Generationwald.
