Spain’s Santiago Luna says there are a lot of positives he can take out of his runner-up finish at the Prostate Cancer UK Scottish Senior Open last week.
The 53 year old, a two-time winner on the European Senior Tour, recorded his best result of the season at Archerfield Links as he finished in a share of second place, one shot behind winner Englishman Paul Eales.
“The first two days at Archerfield were great,” said Luna. “I’m a little unhappy after the third day. To be honest, I didn’t play well. But I didn’t play to win.
“I didn’t make one birdie that day, and I was lucky to score only two bogies. I lost a little bit of confidence because of the wind, it completely changed the course.”
The Scottish Senior Open was the first of four consecutive weeks of events on the European Senior Tour, with the Willow Senior Golf Classic, a new event for this year’s schedule, the Travis Perkins Masters and Paris Legends Championship taking place over the next three weeks.
Luna will go in search of his first win since the 2014 ISPS Handa PGA Seniors Championship at the Stoke by Nayland Hotel, adding to his Scottish Senior Open win in 2013 and Madeira Island Open victory on the European Tour in 1995.
“Second is a really good result,” he said. “I feel good, and that’s the most important thing. We’ll see what happens over the next few weeks.
“I’ll be really happy if I’m up there again, and I’ll try and do my best to get there.”
