Lumsden looking for late promotion charge in the Czech Republic

Ryan Lumsden is looking to improve his chances of a late-season charge at promotion to the DP World Tour when he tees it up in the D+D Real Czech Challenge at Royal Beroun Golf Club this week.

The Scotsman sits 70th on the Road to Mallorca Rankings with just four events of the season remaining and will need to stay inside the top 70 should he wish to tee it up in back-to-back events in China that follow this week in Beroun.

The 27-year-old has recorded two top ten finishes to date this term, with another in the Czech Republic set to secure his place in the Hainan Open and Hangzhou Open field in the coming weeks.

“Obviously it’s on my mind,” he said. “You work hard all year so you want to give yourself a chance. It’s impossible for it not to be on your mind, but I’ve just got to do the best job I can and not have it on my mind when I’m out on the course.

“It’s going to be about playing one shot at a time, nothing more, nothing less, and if I can manage to do a good job of that, I’ll be okay.

“To get to China would be great, and that’s what we’re working for this week. If I have a good week this week, and in China, I could find myself right in the mix for one of the top 20 cards. It’s about playing good golf when it matters.”

Lumsden arrived in Beroun on Sunday ahead of a Wednesday to Saturday tournament week and thinks it will take an aggressive approach to have success on the parkland layout.

“I like the course for sure,” he added. “It’s in good shape, the greens are great and the fairways are great, so it’s nice to be here and the course is clearly going to be a fun one.

“I think it’s going to be one of those weeks where you can go after it a little bit off the tee and be aggressive which is always good.

You’re going to have to make some birdies, we’re aware of that, and we’re ready for the challenge.”

Lumsden joins two-time DP World Tour winner Lucas Bjerregaard and 2018 Challenge Tour Number One Kim Koivu in the 132-strong field.
