Luiten happy with consistent performances

Joost Luiten finished runner-up for the second consecutive week on The European Tour as his run of sparkling form continued at the Shenzhen International.

In a week when the weather played havoc with the schedule at Genzon Golf Club, the Dutchman came into Monday's resumption of the final round a shot behind the leaders with his ball on the 16th green.

He rolled in a par putt, missed a difficult chance for birdie on the 17th and then made a gain on the last to set the clubhouse target at 14 under.

Soomin Lee then went birdie-eagle on the 16th and 17th on his way to a two-shot victory to leave Luiten still searching for a first victory since 2014 but, with six top tens in nine starts this term, the four-time winner is enjoying a stellar campaign.

It's been another really good week for me. I played some consistent golf - Joost Luiten

"I was good on the greens. If I look back, the third round, when I shot level par, I didn't score enough, and that's maybe that little bit that I needed but it's been a good week.

"Those delays, you've just got to deal with them. Everybody's got to deal with them. You just need to be ready when you need to play and I've done that well this week.

"I stayed patient and I tried to be as ready as I could when I was out on the golf course. That's all you can do, and that's all you can focus on."

Brandon Stone finished in a tie for second with Luiten as he enjoyed his best finish since wining his first title at The BMW SA Open hosted by City of Ekurhuleni in January.

The South African rolled in a birdie on the 15th and despite seeing chances brush the hole on the 16th and 17th, he was happy with his week's work.

A little bit of bittersweetness, but still a great week nonetheless - Brandon Stone

"I played great, I really did, from Thursday all the way to Monday. I've really hit the ball great. I'm hitting some great putts that just aren't finding the hole.

"A little bit frustrating in the end there. I hit some great putts on 16, 17, that really should have gone in. I thought they were in the whole way. But 14 under par, sitting second, you can't really complain.

"I said to my caddie, 'we've just got to give ourselves a chance every hole', and that's what we did. We were very fortunate.

"We gave ourselves a chance and that's all we can do today. Played great the whole week but, like I said, a little bit disappointing."
