A series of weather delays on the opening three days at Real Club Valderrama forced tournament organisers to reduce the event to three rounds on Saturday.

And the hooter sounded again on Sunday afternoon as more inclement weather hit southern Spain, with local favourite Garcia three shots ahead of 23-time European Tour winner Lee Westwood after seven holes.

But local favourite Garcia, who is looking to add to the Andalucía Masters titles he won in 2011 and 2017, was reined in when play got back under way on Monday morning.

Lowry had produced three birdies in his first eight holes to get to six under before play was halted on Sunday and he flew out of the blocks on Monday, making gains at the tenth, 11th and 12th to reduce Garcia's advantage to one shot.

The Spaniard began the day on ten under par and he rolled in from around nine feet at the tenth to jump up to 11 under and increase his lead.

But after failing to get up and down at the 13th, the 2017 Masters Champion dropped a shot at the 13th to slip back to ten under.
